A Personal Tribute reflecting on the Life and Art of Joan Eardley RSA, this booklet explores the artist’s Mearns Connections. It records the author’s personal journey to discover the profound connections Joan Eardley forged with the area she came to love. The author also reflects on the deeper links between Eardley – perhaps the greatest British painter of the 20th Century – and the prose works of Lewis Grassic Gibbon, author of Sunset Song.

David E Johnston was born and brought up in Laurencekirk and has never really left. He read English at Aberdeen University and embarked on a career in education. He taught English for 33 years before retiring in 2009 to concentrate on his painting. Working in watercolour, David has exhibited widely and has work in Private and Public Collections worldwide. In 2017, he was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour. He recently received the Sir William Gillies Award for a work in the 140th Annual Exhibition of the RSW.

A launch is planned at the event at the Grassic Gibbon Centre, Arbuthnott, Laurencekirk. Date to be confirmed.
